To large extent, Hindu architecture was demolished . In place of it, geometrical features, calligraphy, inscriptional art were included. Further, some temples across India were demolished viz Somnath, Varanasi, Vikramshila, Odantipura, Kanchi, Madurai, Chidambaram etc. Mosques were either built on demolished sites or converted temples into mosques.

Importance was given to Arcuate style, a different style in Indian subcontinent. The beginning of use of the false archs and false domes (such as Quwwat-ul-islam Mosque) to true arch and domes (begins from Alai Darwaja). While numerous square-plan mausoleums were built in Delhi, the new form of octagonal plan with a surrounding colonnade was developed from the last stage of Sayyid Dynasty through Lodi rule, eg. Muhammad Shah Tomb, Sikandar Lodi Tomb in Lodi gardens.

As workers were not brought during Sultanate period from their home land, Indians were employed. It helped a synthesis between Hindu and Islamic architecture in earlier days of their rule but later, their own culture flourished i.e. arcuate style. Post Sultanate period , the style so employed continued in India. The sad thing was many Hindu temples were destroyed as per Historian Richard Eaton.
